Two things I have learned over the years…

One is that spending most of your waking hours in mud, rain and dreariness gets old.

When your first steps of the morning are into mud, and five minutes later you’re soaked, and you haven’t seen the sun for days, well, such can get old.

Such can get you down, and it doesn’t matter where you are. This reality always pierces whichever romanticized notions of pretty landscapes.

Then, the sun shines again.

Then whatever lower feelings you may experience immersed in dreary elements become higher feelings. Compared to those who spend most of their lives inside, you feel lower than them for seeing the clouds yet you feel happier than them by seeing the sun.

And this, two, pretty much makes life outside worth it
