It occurs to me that the type of photography I’d most like to do would require mules, solar panels, a big battery, starlink, patience and at least one helper because doing everything by myself gets harder and harder.

I hate setting up tents, setting up camp, making coffee, cooking meals, cleaning dishes and a thousand other necessary tasks a man by himself must do, which is harder to do in the wilderness.

Yet, to wake up in America’s wilderness areas and have plenty of charge to shoot mornings and sunsets, and download images to my laptop, and manipulate them in Lightroom, and watch movies like a 21st century person in the middle of nowhere, well, that could motivate me produce some amazing images.

It could.

But, I’d have to be almost be some European noble with money to throw away, especially to make it delightfully comfortable and thus more motivating to endure day after day.

Or, would it if I had patience? Well, I’d also need a mule, and know how to care for a mule, and how to make him work, and a bunch of other stuff I don’t know.

That’s what many 19th century artists did. Moran, Remington, Bierstadt, Jackson… except without electrical stuff. However, the electrical stuff wouldn’t be terribly encumbering with mules and helpers.

And I wouldn’t want to die like Everett Ruess, but now I’m rambling…
