Glacier National Park is stunning. I have taken I don’t know how many photos, and plan to spend as many more days as I can here, whatever that amount is.
The problem is that there are so many freaking people here. Campsite availability, parking, waiting forever to get a photograph without people in it, and other things, all are augmenting my aggravation.
It is difficult to be spontaneous in a place like this. Every single detail of whatever you’re going to do and wherever you stay has to be meticulously planned out in advance with timing and reservation.
I kind of figured it would be a bit like this, and it is still probably not as bad as being spontaneous in Yosemite, but my aggravation is nonetheless growing.
A lot of National Parks are like this. I’m not saying I have some magical solution to the problem. I’m not denying that I’m part of the problem too, and I’ll continue to put up with the problem because the land is stunning.
Thus, today, I’m making a strategic retreat to outside the Park where I have plenty of internet service, so I can plan my exploration of the east side of the Park, where there are less facilities, but the views will be awesome.
I may have to stay on the Blackfeet Reservation, which maybe no problem at all, but it could also be a huge hassle. Indian reservations can be very, very fickle.
